About Chen
Chen was born to a chinese mother and a japanese father. He was greatly influenced by his mother, a distinguished artist and designer of jewellery.
Following his mothers lead, he attended university, studied art and design and graduated with distinctions in sculptural artistry.
Since then, Chen has found his work exhibited across the globe, including Netherlands, Japan, Australia, Singapore, Spain, Germany and the USA.
He has many private collectors around the world that wait in anticipation for new creations to be designed.
His focus on stainless steel ensures his sculptures, are like no other. His fascination by the raw strength and flexibility of this medium ensures that every sculpture is indeed a piece of art.
Chen has now been designing and constructing these extraordinary Stainless Steel sculptures for over 25years.
Artists Statement'
'As an artist, I chose sculpture because it offered me unlimited creative expression and challenge. I use my work to try and express the concept of shibumi to a western audience'
Translated, Shibumi is something so correct that it does not need to be bold, so poignant or does not have to be pretty nor true, it does not have to be real. Shibumi is understanding rather than knowledge. In a man, it is authority without domination.
