Emerging Dragon by Dutch/Australian artist Mike Van Dam is a monumental stainless steel sculpture that combines mythic symbolism with extraordinary contemporary craftsmanship. Rising from the shoreline with coiled force and an open, commanding head, the dragon appears to emerge from another realm—part guardian, part elemental presence. Its scale alone is dramatic, but the real impact comes from the construction: thousands of interlinked stainless steel chains forming a shimmering skin that catches light, movement, and atmosphere.

Crafted from 4mm 316 marine grade stainless steel chain links (approximately 4000 metres of chain), the sculpture transforms an industrial material into a highly expressive surface. From a distance, the work reads as a powerful figurative form. Up close, it reveals an intricate mesh of labour, structure, and texture, reinforcing themes of strength, resilience, and transformation. The dragon motif adds a further symbolic layer, evoking protection, power, fortune, and primal energy across cultures.

At 3 metres high and 5 metres long, Emerging Dragon is a large-scale statement sculpture designed for significant interior or outdoor settings. It is a striking work of contemporary metal sculpture that balances engineering precision with sculptural imagination, making it ideal for collectors, public spaces, and architectural landscapes seeking a bold centrepiece artwork.
