Australian Sculptor Petrena-Shaw

Meet Petrena Shaw

In her early years, Petrena started her artistic career as a jewellery and batik fabric designer and evolved into sculpting, working with Bronze, Ciment Fondu and Mosaic. In the late nineties, Petrena produced many Bronze Sculptures, which were exhibited in galleries around Australia, US and Hawaii and later on with the Sydney Sculptors Society. Petrena
studied with various artists studying sculpture, foundry & mould making techniques, and whilst she was living in Sydney (2002-2013), Petrena spent 5 years studying with one of Australia’s greatest master sculptors,
Tom Bass, where she enhanced her traditional sculpting methods and focused on life studies and the human form. Petrena also studied Ikebana with master teacher Mase’ Ako and achieved teacher qualifications. In
2013 Petrena and her husband John, a keen photographer, have moved back to the Byron Bay Hinterland and established a new art studio in the rainforest producing Bronze, Mosiac and Ciment Fondu sculptures. Petrena is currently working on a new body of work and enjoys bush regeneration, planting endangered species and establishing a koala habitat on their property.
