In NUN (Claudia), Cécile Plaisance turns maternity into an icon. The figure stands front-on against a deep black void, dressed in a stark veil and wimple with rosary beads falling like ceremonial jewellery, an image that feels both devotional and editorial. The key note, though, is the pregnant belly: unmistakably present, softly rounding the silhouette and shifting the work from costume to contemporary allegory.
As a lenticular photography artwork, the piece changes as you move, creating a living portrait where expression, posture and presence subtly evolve. That motion becomes part of the meaning, mirroring the quiet, constant transformation of pregnancy itself. Plaisance uses the contrast between sacred styling and the reality of the maternal body to explore expectation, purity, power and agency, inviting the viewer to reconsider what is “revered” and who gets to be an icon.
Designed as statement wall art, NUN (Claudia) is collectible contemporary photography that commands attention in modern interiors and rewards repeat viewing with its shifting lenticular effect.
