The surface of Miroir Bronze radiates outward from the centre in thousands of fine crystalline strokes, like frost forming across glass or the shockwave of something that happened a moment ago. Gold and warm bronze pool unevenly through the pale ground — scorched in some places, barely there in others. At this scale the eye reads it first as a single luminous disc and only afterwards notices how much is going on inside it.
Three forms interrupt the field. A large disc set into the upper right, its own concave centre drawing the surrounding light into a tight ring; a second, smaller disc overlapping it, catching a different angle entirely; and a single gold sphere sitting alone at the lower left, small and dense, holding the whole composition in balance. Nothing is centred. That off-axis arrangement is what gives the work movement — the eye travels between the three points and never settles.
This is the warmest work in Gaignon’s palette and the easiest to live with over time. Gold and bronze read as light rather than as colour, so the piece behaves almost like a source of illumination on a wall — particularly late in the day, when low sun crosses the surface and the radiating strokes fire one after another. Against pale plaster, travertine, limewash or oak it is entirely at home; alongside brass or antique gilt fittings it consolidates a scheme rather than competing with it.

Because the glass is hand-worked, the tint, the movement in the surface and the placement of the satellites will differ from anything shown — that variation is the point, and it is why no two of his mirrors reflect the same way.
