Miroir Scarabée earns its name honestly. The surface shifts between deep teal, verdigris and a cooler blue-green depending on where you stand, in exactly the iridescent way a scarab’s carapace does — never one colour, never quite settling. Dark striations run through it like grain in stone or the rings of something cut open, and beneath them the glass radiates outward in fine strokes from a centre that isn’t where you expect it to be.
The composition is quieter than Gaignon’s bronze or blue works, and stranger for it. A chartreuse disc sits low and left, bright and almost acid against the surrounding green, throwing the balance deliberately off. Two small textured spheres, crusted and mineral rather than polished, punctuate the field like specimens pinned to a surface. Nothing about the arrangement is decorative; it reads as something found rather than composed.
Green is the hardest colour to place well in an interior and the most rewarding when it lands. This work sits naturally in rooms that already have something living in them — a garden outlook, a courtyard, planting close to the glazing — where it picks up and deepens what’s coming in through the window. Against dark timber or bronze joinery it turns jewel-like; on a pale wall it holds its own as a single saturated note in an otherwise restrained scheme.

Colour tip: iridescent greens read differently under warm and cool light. If the room runs to warm LEDs, the teal deepens and the chartreuse softens; under cooler daylight the whole work sharpens. Worth seeing samples in your own light before committing to a green.
