Miroir Clair de Lune is built around a contradiction. The great blue disc behind is opaque and weather-like — light pools and drifts across it in soft bands, the way it moves under the surface of deep water. Then the clear lens at its centre does the opposite: it opens, gathers the entire room and turns it upside down inside a single sphere. One half of the work absorbs light; the other half hands it back to you, inverted.
The satellite disc sitting off to one side is what stops it reading as a symmetrical decorative object. It breaks the circle, throws the composition off-centre, and gives the work a sense of orbit — a moon beside a planet, which is what earns the piece its name. Small coloured glass studs are set into the surface as counterweights to the blue.
Blue at this saturation is a commitment. It will not disappear into a scheme the way a silver or bronze mirror does. Against white, off-white or pale plaster it behaves like a window onto something else; against timber or stone it turns cool and jewel-like. In a room with water nearby — a pool outlook, a harbour view — it does something very hard to achieve any other way, picking up and amplifying the colour already coming through the glazing.

Placement tip: concave mirrors reward distance. Allow at least 3–4m (10–13 ft) of clear viewing space in front of a work this size — the central lens resolves properly as you step back, and is lost when you’re on top of it.
