Christophe Gaignon works glass by hand until it stops behaving like a surface and starts behaving like a lens. The concave sweep of Miroir Mauvet draws the entire room into itself — walls, windows, light fittings, the person standing in front of it — and compresses all of it into a single floating sphere at the centre. Step left, and the whole world inside the glass swings with you. It is closer to an eye than a mirror.
The rose tint is what makes this particular work sit so easily in a residential interior. Where a silver mirror reports the room coldly and accurately, the mauve-rose glass warms everything it takes in. Late afternoon light turns amber inside it; overhead lighting softens; skin tones flatter rather than expose. Against pale joinery, limewash or panelled walls, it reads as a warm aperture cut into the surface rather than a decorative object hung on it.
Each work in this series is made and finished by the artist and signed. Because the glass is worked by hand, minor irregularities in the tint and the reflective surface are inherent to the process — they are the reason no two pieces reflect quite the same way, and they are visible in person in a way photographs flatten.

At 81cm the scale is deliberate and useful. It is large enough to hold a wall on its own — above a console, a fireplace, a bedhead, or at the turn of a stair — without demanding the ceiling height that Gaignon’s larger works need. In an entry or a sitting room it becomes the piece the eye goes to first and returns to last.
Placement tip: concave mirrors reward distance. Allow at least 2.5–3m (8–10 ft) of clear viewing space in front of the work — the sphere at the centre resolves properly as you step back, and gets lost when you’re on top of it.
