Christian Louboutin, Pigalle Follies

Artist: Nick Veasey

Nick Veasey’s Christian Louboutin, Pigalle Follies turns a pair of studded designer heels, nestled in a ribboned gift box, into a study of unexpected structure. Where the eye usually stops at the gloss and the spikes, Veasey’s X-ray presses further, exposing the steel shank that arcs through each shoe and the engineering that lets a heel hold a body’s weight on so slender a point. The result finds the architecture hidden inside an object built entirely to be looked at.

That is the quiet joke and the real beauty of the piece. Christian Louboutin, Pigalle Follies sets glamour against its own scaffolding, revealing that even the most decorative things depend on hidden structure to stand. Veasey treats luxury not with cynicism but with curiosity, showing that desire and engineering are not opposites, and that a beautiful object is often a feat of design as much as an indulgence. Presented as a gift, ribbon and all, the work plays knowingly on the rituals of wanting, giving and being seen.

Rendered with Veasey’s characteristic clarity, the shoes, the box and the bow read together in a single luminous layer. The piece is made for a dressing room, boutique interior or any space that celebrates fashion, and speaks to collectors drawn to design, luxury and conceptual photography. Blending science, photography and fine art, Christian Louboutin, Pigalle Follies is produced as a strictly limited edition.
