La Lune

Artist: Jeremy Kay

In Jeremy Kay’s La Lune, rings of cobalt and electric blue tighten toward a white-hot centre where the backlighting bleaches the resin until the pattern almost dissolves into pure light. It is the most graphic composition in the series, and the most transformed by its illumination.

The work behaves like its namesake. By day it reads as a cool blue disc, precise and sculptural, the individual beads sharply defined. After dark it becomes a source rather than an object — a full moon mounted on the wall, throwing soft blue light into the room around it.

La Lune nods to the French heritage of an artist now based in Byron Bay, and to the nocturnal world that shapes his practice. It is at its most powerful in a low-lit interior, where the contrast between the deep blue field and the luminous core is at full strength.
