Tidal Bloom

Tidal Bloom by Jeremy Kay, circular backlit resin wall artwork in turquoise, cobalt and pearl white

Tidal Bloom

Artist: Jeremy Kay

Jeremy Kay’s Tidal Bloom sends concentric rings of turquoise, cobalt and seafoam rippling outward from a single blue centre, interrupted by bands of pearl white that read like light scattering across moving water. Each of the hundreds of domed beads is hand-cast in tinted epoxy resin, catching and bending the illumination from the work’s own backlit core.

The result is a surface that refuses to sit still. Viewed straight on, the rings resolve into a precise radial geometry; step to the side and the blues deepen, the pearl bands lift, and the whole disc shifts between cool depth and bright shallows. It is a work about the behaviour of light in water, made in a material that behaves the same way.

Tidal Bloom reflects Kay’s central preoccupation — the point at which a tactile object becomes atmosphere. Mounted and lit, it does not simply hang on a wall; it changes the temperature of the room around it. A luminous, meditative work for interiors that can give it space to breathe.
