Jeremy Kay’s Sol is a single field of saturated orange, backlit until the rim burns gold and the whole disc reads as a small sun mounted on the wall. There is no banding and no contrast to distract from it — only concentric spirals of cast resin domes breaking the light into thousands of individual points.
It is the simplest work in the series and the warmest. Stripped of pattern, everything rests on the quality of the colour and the evenness of the casting, both of which are exceptional here. The transition from deep orange at the core to luminous gold at the edge happens entirely through the depth of the resin.
Sol functions as artwork and light source in equal measure. Switched on in a dim room it does not merely illuminate the wall — it saturates the surrounding space in warm orange, exactly the shift from surface to atmosphere that defines Kay’s practice.
