Rouge Nocturne
Artist: Jeremy Kay
Jeremy Kay’s Rouge Nocturne is worked in deep crimson throughout, with brighter scarlet domes catching the light against an oxblood ground so that the spiral surfaces only where it is lit. It is the darkest and most atmospheric piece in the series.
Where the brighter works throw colour outward, this one holds it. The resin absorbs far more light than it returns, giving the surface an unusual density — closer to lacquer or polished stone than to the luminous translucency of the pale works. It comes fully alive only after dark.
Named for the after-hours rooms that shaped it, Rouge Nocturne distils Kay’s nightlife influences into their most concentrated form. A dramatic, adult work that suits dining rooms, bars and low-lit interiors where its restraint can register properly.
